Gov’t Reports 35% Completion of Thilamale’ Bridge Project

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib revealed that 35 percent of the Thilamale’ Bridge Project has been completed, at a press conference today.

The Minister further elaborated that the current completion status stands at 35.53 percent, indicating that the project is progressing ahead of schedule.

Dr. Muththalib highlighted specific achievements, noting that 24 percent of the pre-casting work for the superstructure has been accomplished, surpassing the projected advancement by 1.11 percent.

Emphasising the importance of maintaining the current pace, Dr. Muththalib outlined that adhering to the established schedule remains a top priority. Discussion regarding the finalisation timeline will be pursued subsequent to ensuring continued progress.

Providing insights into the ongoing construction, the ministry disclosed that 58 percent of the piling work has been finalised, along with 43 percent of the pile capping and 40 percent of the pier column work.

Should the project continue to proceed as planned, connectivity could be achieved by February of the following year. The overall completion of the Thilamale’ Bridge Project is anticipated by the project’s conclusion.

The Thilamale’ Bridge Project, valued at USD 500 million (MVR 7.7 billion), is funded predominantly through a USD 400 million line of credit from the Exim Bank of India, with an additional USD 100 million provided as free assistance by the Government of India.
