Government offices across the Maldives are reopening today after a two-week closure that covered the final 10 days of Ramadan and the Eid holidays.

The resumption of services marks the end of an extended break for civil servants, with official duties now returning to normal.

While government operations resume today, the new academic year for schools is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Schools had closed for their annual holidays on 27 February, giving students a break of around 40 days. Although schools usually reopen on a Sunday, the start of the academic year has been moved to Monday this time due to the overlap with Eid celebrations.

Teachers have already begun reporting to their respective schools today in preparation for the new term.

According to the academic calendar published by the Ministry of Education, the first term holidays will commence on 24 July, with the second term set to begin on 10 August. The academic year will conclude on 28 December, after which schools will observe their annual break from 28 December 2025 to 27 January 2026.

The Ministry of Education had earlier announced that beginning next year, the annual school holidays would start in December instead of the previous February schedule.
