Gov’t Set to Settle Outstanding MVR 106 Million Debt with Fishermen

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has announced that the government is taking steps to disburse MVR 106 million to fishermen.
Previously, Minister Shiyam highlighted that an outstanding sum of MVR 200 million had not been disbursed to fishermen when the new administration assumed office.
In a statement on ‘X’, Minister Shiyam emphasised the significant impact of delayed payments on fishing communities, stating, “This has severely affected many of the essential needs of fishing families.”

He also conveyed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to finding a permanent solution to this issue and highlighted ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by fishermen.
Earlier, Minister Shiyam expressed the government’s target to settle outstanding payments to fishermen within a two-week timeframe.
