Gov’t Spends Over MVR 1.1 Million on Medical Support in June, Highest Disbursement for Transplant Treatment

The Maldives Zakat House has revealed that the largest portion of health-related financial aid extended to low-income individuals in June was allocated for transplant treatment.

According to its monthly report, the organisation disbursed a total of over MVR 1.76 million in support for 104 individuals within the low-income bracket. Out of this amount, MVR 1.1 million was spent during June 2025.

The highest individual expenditure during the month was for transplant-related treatments, totalling MVR 796,443. Other medical conditions supported by the fund include cancer (MVR 245,949), neurological diseases (MVR 46,645.50), nephropathy (MVR 38,164.50), cardiac diseases (MVR 21,202.50), and pulmonary diseases (MVR 16,962).

Maldives Zakat House is responsible for managing the national Zakat Fund and provides monthly assistance to low-income citizens. In addition to medical aid, the fund also supports religious education initiatives, including Quran memorisation programmes such as Hifz.
