Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced plans to redevelop the former Jamaluddin School site into a multifunctional area, including an underground parking zone and a park for public use.
Initially serving as the election center for the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) after the closure of the school, the land underwent partial reallocation. A portion was designated for the construction of Arabiyya School’s new premises, with the remainder earmarked for the expansion of Jamaluddin School.
However, under the current administration, Arabiyya School’s relocation to the former junkyard site at Block No. 381 has been confirmed, providing additional space for educational facilities.
The proposed underground parking zone and nature park have been presented to the public through a design plan, which was showcased last Thursday.
Addressing the persistent parking challenges faced by the Male’ city’s residents, the council has also committed to the construction of a dedicated parking building. Concurrently, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, in conjunction with the Male’ City Council, has initiated measures to clear the streets of old and illegally parked vehicles, streamlining traffic flow and enhancing urban aesthetics.
The initiative to provide additional parking spaces aligns with a pledge made during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure and amenities for the populace.
