The government is working to complete the digital handover of land plots in Gulhifalhu this week to recipients who were allocated plots under the previous administration’s housing policy, Housing Minister Dr Abdullah Muthalib said.
Responding to a question from a parliamentarian during his appearance at the People’s Majlis today, Muthalib said the current government’s policy is to continue projects initiated by the previous administration.
He said efforts are currently underway to finalise the handover process for individuals who received land plots from Gulhifalhu, with the process expected to be completed digitally this week. While the handover of plots was initially carried out in person, Muthalib said the government shifted to a digital process as the land remains undeveloped, making physical access and transportation difficult.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development said in April that more than 160 Gulhifalhu land plots had been distributed to recipients as part of the ongoing land allocation initiative.
The Gulhifalhu land allocation programme includes plots across seven size categories, ranging from 1,250 square feet to 3,650 square feet. The allocation plan includes 669 plots measuring 1,250 square feet, 1,234 plots of 1,650 square feet, 916 plots of 2,050 square feet, 473 plots of 2,450 square feet, 158 plots of 2,850 square feet, 49 plots of 3,250 square feet and 21 plots of 3,650 square feet.
The land use plan for Gulhifalhu has undergone three revisions, with the latest plan incorporating residential and social housing areas alongside facilities including education, healthcare, industrial zones, public parks and sports facilities.
