Gov’t to Ensure Availability of Essential Medicines at STO Pharmacies

President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that all medicines listed as essential by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) will be available at State Trading Organisation (STO) pharmacies from 15 March.

The announcement was made during his visit to Meedhoo as part of his ongoing tour of the islands in South Nilandhe Atoll. Addressing residents, he highlighted the government’s efforts to regulate medicine pricing and ensure accessibility.

He stated that the practice of pharmacies generating excessive profits from medicine sales had been curbed and linked the recent shortages to these pricing issues. 

He reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing any disruptions that could cause difficulties for citizens.
