The government is set to hold the official opening of Dharumavantha Hospital later this month, five years after the facility was completed and began operations.
The 25-storey hospital, constructed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, will be formally inaugurated following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s return from the COP summit in Azerbaijan.
The previous administration, led by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), had scheduled multiple dates for the hospital’s official launch, though none ultimately took place. The MDP, then in opposition during the hospital’s construction, had raised concerns over alleged corruption in the project. Consequently, the facility was opened for use without an official ceremony.
Although the hospital’s construction began under former President Yameen, it was only completed to an operational level under the subsequent MDP-led administration.
While there has been no official government comment on the pending inauguration, the entire building is reportedly now in use, with preparations underway for a formal opening ceremony on November 17.
