Gov’t to Introduce Passport and ID Services for Maldivians in Malaysia

The government has announced to establish passport and identification card services for Maldivians residing in Malaysia. 

The development was revealed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during an interview with PSM News on Sunday morning, ahead of his official visit to the country.

According to the government, the purpose of the trip is to strengthen diplomatic relations and address the needs of Maldivian citizens living in Malaysia. President Dr Muizzu emphasised his administration’s commitment to tackling the challenges faced by Maldivians abroad. He outlined plans to hold formal discussions with Malaysian leaders to find solutions and confirmed his intention to meet with the Maldivian community in Malaysia to identify areas where government support can be provided.

The president confirmed that official meetings with Malaysian leaders will take place during the visit, and expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries would be further enhanced. He also announced plans to establish facilities in Malaysia for processing passports and identification cards, marking a significant advancement in improving access to essential services for Maldivians overseas.

In addition to addressing citizen services, the visit will also focus on promoting investment opportunities in the Maldives. President Dr Muizzu indicated that Malaysian investors would receive briefings on key sectors, positioning the Maldives as an attractive destination for international investment.
