The government will invite all former Presidents and Vice Presidents to attend the official events marking the 60th Independence Day of the country, according to the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim.
The country is set to commemorate its Independence Day on 26 July, with formal celebrations scheduled to take place over two days at the Social Centre in Malé. The official ceremonies will begin at 9:00 am on both 27 and 28 July.
The Minister said the invitation extended to former national leaders reflects the government’s policy of recognising individuals who have served the nation. He stated that the current administration places emphasis on appreciating national service and aims to show due respect to those who have held the highest offices in the country.
The approach aligns with the government’s stated goal of promoting value-based change under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In addition to the national celebrations, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will also be inviting all former Presidents to attend the official opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport. The opening ceremony will be held on 26 July to coincide with Independence Day.
