President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will provide 25,000 housing units through the Rasmalé development, positioning the project as a central pillar of its long-term strategy to address the Maldives’ growing housing demand.

Speaking at the official Rayyithunnaa Eku Kuriah – Hafthaa 104 function marking the Administration’s second anniversary, the President said the first phase will deliver 15,000 units for the Malé region—comprising housing towers and 7,500 flats—while the remaining 10,000 units will be completed under a modern eco-city model. He said housing remains the Government’s top priority and highlighted the need for sustainable, affordable options for future generations.

The comments follow his earlier announcement on Republic Day that the Government will soon open applications for 15,000 land plots in Rasmalé and 7,000 housing units in the Greater Malé Area. The plots will be issued from land expected to be reclaimed within the next five months, with priority given to Malé natives and long-term residents listed on the Malé Register.

He also noted that upcoming housing and land schemes will include dedicated allocations for groups such as individuals over 18 without housing, single parents, people with disabilities, those who have lost their mothers, state institution staff, and tourism sector workers, reaffirming commitments made during his presidential campaign.
