Gov’t Unveils Plan to Reclaim Land for 75,000 Housing Units

Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has announced plans for land reclamation in the Greater Male’ Region, aiming to address the pressing need for housing by accommodating a total of 75,000 housing units on the reclaimed land.
During a press conference, Minister Haidar outlined the specific areas earmarked for reclamation, including Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu, Gulhi Falhu, Uthuru Thila Falhu, and Hulhumale’ Phase 3. The cumulative reclaimed area from these projects is expected to provide the necessary space for the envisaged housing units.
Minister Ahmed highlighted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had conceptualised the development plans for the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu project prior to the presidential election. The envisioned development aims to offer services, including those currently lacking in Male’.
The area is slated to feature sports and recreational facilities, an economic zone, modern hospitals, universities, and other essential institutions. Moreover, specific zones for tourism and waste management will be designated, accompanied by an integrated transport system.
Expressing confidence in the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu project, Minister Ahmed asserted that it would serve as a long-term solution to the housing crisis in Male’.
He disclosed that the development would adhere to a 20-year plan. The government, in alignment with its housing policy, plans to initiate housing projects in both northern and southern regions to cater to the housing needs of citizens.
