The government has resolved to introduce air ambulance services commencing March 1 next year.
The decision was reached during a cabinet meeting yesterday held at the President’s Office. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, the principal secretary to the president on public policy, addressed the media this morning for updates.
According to Nazim, the cabinet not only greenlit the launch of air ambulance services but also decided to collaborate with the Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) to designate two aircraft for this purpose. The operational oversight of this service will fall under the National Ambulance Service, a department under the Health Ministry.
Highlighting the initial phase of implementation, Nazim specified that the service would commence with two aircraft, with plans for subsequent expansion of the fleet in the future.
The initiation of air ambulance services in the Maldives holds particular significance as it fulfills one of President Muizzu’s electoral promises and aligns with the objectives outlined in his ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap.
