The Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into Faxy’s Hijama Clinic following a social media advertisement claiming that a single hijama session can result in a weight loss of three to four kilos without the need for exercise or diet management.
The clinic, owned by Fazeela Usman, had previously faced scrutiny for providing hijama services without official registration. It was shut down by the Ministry on 24 September 2024 after repeated warnings and later reopened in January following proper registration.
The latest advertisement, posted on Facebook, also offered hijama sessions at a reduced price of MVR 500, down from MVR 1,000, and promised a refund if no weight loss occurred.
The Health Ministry has confirmed it is reviewing the clinic’s claims. While some studies suggest hijama may help improve circulation and remove toxins, medical experts maintain that a balanced diet and regular exercise remain the most effective methods for healthy weight loss.
