The Ministry of Health has introduced guidelines to standardise healthcare, setting the upper age limit for pediatrician consultation at 16 years, in a statement issued today.

The Health Ministry emphasised that this age restriction is a general rule and should be implemented while considering the scope of practice, competency, and code of conduct for pediatricians.
Importantly, this does not preclude pediatricians from providing care for patients above the age of 16 years within the confines of their professional capabilities.
For patients falling outside the pediatric age range, healthcare seekers can avail services from doctors specialising in other medical fields, including various specialties and sub-specialties.
The provision of care for patients under the age of 16 by these specialists is to be conducted in adherence to their respective scopes of practice, competencies, and codes of conduct.
Health facilities are strongly urged to comply with this directive until any further revisions are communicated by the Ministry of Health.
This move aims to ensure a uniform standard of healthcare across diverse medical practices while safeguarding the well-being of patients within specified age groups.
