The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast continued heavy rainfall across parts of the country as Malé City remains flooded following hours of downpour yesterday, with a white alert remaining in effect until 14:00 hrs today.

The Met Office stated that rainfall is expected to persist, with thunderstorms likely across several central atolls. A Yellow Alert was issued from Baa Atoll to Meemu Atoll, warning of severe weather yesterday.

Flooding in Malé has prompted emergency response teams to deploy water pumps and sandbags in low-lying areas to manage rising water levels.

South-west and west winds between 13 and 23 miles per hour are expected across the central atolls, with gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour in storm clouds. Sea conditions are set to remain strong in the central Maldives, with wave heights forecast between 4 and 7 feet, while the northern and southern atolls are expected to experience moderately strong seas with waves ranging between 3 and 6 feet.

The Met Office indicated that rainfall is expected to ease gradually after Monday, although intermittent showers may continue in some parts of the country.
