Heavy Rain Expected Across Maldives Through Monday, Issues White Alert

The Maldives is experiencing heavy rainfall across much of the country, with conditions expected to persist at least until next Monday, and the national weather agency has issued a white alert for today.

The capital, Male’, has seen continuous heavy rain since earlier today. The Maldives Meteorological Service has indicated that the downpours will continue across northern and central regions, with scattered showers in the south over the next 24 hours.
From Friday, heavy rain is expected to affect a wide area stretching from HA. Atoll to L. Atoll and is likely to persist in northern and central regions until at least Monday. Scattered showers, however, are forecast to continue in southern areas even after Monday.
The weather agency has issued a white alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms, including gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, for the area from N. Atoll to Th. Atoll, valid until at least 1:00 pm.
