The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed heavy rainfall sweeping across the Maldives since last night has resulted in damages in the capital city, Malé, and five other islands.

Reports of varying degrees of damages have emerged from Faafu Nilandhoo, Kaafu Guraidhoo, Laamu Gan and Fonadhoo, and Addu City Maradhoo, as detailed in a statement released today.

In Kaafu Guraidhoo, 20 homes were reported to be flooded, with residents from three homes being relocated, the NDMA confirmed.

Malé, the capital city, witnessed extensive flooding of its roads due to continuous rainfall since last night. In response, the city council, police, and MNDF have collaborated to strategically place sandbags in affected areas where rainwater seeps into homes, according to the NDMA.

As inclement weather persisted across the country, a yellow alert warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms was issued from Noonu atoll to Vaavu atoll today.

It is noteworthy that the NDMA, in conjunction with various agencies, had provided assistance to families in Fuvahmulah and Addu cities following heavy downpours that resulted in flooded roads and homes.

The situation is being closely monitored as authorities work towards managing the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and ensuring the well-being of affected communities.
