Residents of Haa Dhaalu Atoll Hirimaradhoo will cast their votes in the Hanimaadhoo constituency for the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections 2026, following a Presidential Decree issued by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu today.

The decree specifies the inhabited islands of the Maldives to facilitate the ongoing resettlement of Hirimaradhoo residents to Hanimaadhoo. Under Section 8(h) of the Elections General Act (Act No. 11/2008), residents in the process of relocation are deemed electors of the island to which they are being resettled. This ensures their participation in the elections, scheduled for 4 April 2026, and allows the Elections Commission of the Maldives to update the Voters’ Registry accordingly.

The amendment has been issued under the authority of Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010). Once the resettlement and registration of Hirimaradhoo residents in Hanimaadhoo are completed, Hirimaradhoo will be officially declared uninhabited.

The updated list of inhabited islands has been published in the Government Gazette, and the amendment will take effect from the date the Government confirms the completion of the resettlement process.
