Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed has revealed that the locations of certain plots allocated under the previous administration’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme might undergo adjustments, in a press conference yesterday.
A significant number of individuals who received land under the scheme’s initial phase were issued land registries and provided with maps indicating the precise location of their plots before the recent change in administration last weekend.
Dr. Haidar, in his inaugural press briefing as Housing Minister, voiced criticism against the former administration, citing a lack of adequate planning in implementing the housing scheme. He deemed the current state of affairs unacceptable, describing the issued plots as mere squares with no provision for facilities or open spaces.
The Housing Minister suggested the possibility of changing the locations during the development phase to adhere to a comprehensive urban plan. However, he assured that neither the size of the plots nor the originating island for land allocation would be altered.
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of residents, Dr. Haidar stressed that the issuance of land alone was insufficient. He underscored the need for additional facilities to create a habitable environment, asserting, “The places need additional facilities to make it livable.”
The potential changes in plot locations underpin the new administration’s dedication to thoughtful urban planning and ensuring the contentment of those residing in the allocated lands.
