The Ministry of Housing has clarified the criteria for allocating three-room apartments under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, following concerns over inconsistencies in the lottery process.

According to the ministry, the flats—part of the 4,000 units designated by the previous administration—were initially allocated to applicants who scored 76 points and above. However, it was later found that the lottery was not applied uniformly to all individuals who met this threshold.

The ministry noted that during a draw conducted on 16 November 2023 under the previous government, some applicants with 76 points were excluded, while others who scored above 75 received flats through a lottery system. In response, the ministry has now decided to prioritise a new lottery draw exclusively for those who scored 76 marks. Applicants with 75 points will be considered after this group.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had previously suspended the flat allocation process near the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term. The current administration reviewed the list and published a revised version in February this year.

Amid public concern over a large number of disqualifications, Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muthalib stated that the final allocations would be based on the original list of eligible applicants.

The Ministry of Housing is currently finalising agreements with flat recipients in partnership with the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC). On Sunday, the ministry temporarily paused some agreement signings due to inconsistencies found in a list provided to the FDC.
