The Housing Ministry has extended the deadline for proposals for a project to develop 1,000 affordable home ownership units in Hulhumalé Phase III.

The request for proposal (RFP) for the project, which will be implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, was originally issued on 26 February. An amendment announced yesterday confirmed that the submission deadline has been extended from 23 March to 1:00 pm on 31 March.

Proposals are required to be submitted via email to proposal@infrastructure.gov.mv. Requests for clarification related to the amendment must be submitted in writing to the same address by 1:00 pm on 22 March.

According to the Housing Ministry, the project will include two-bedroom units with a minimum size of 700 square feet and three-bedroom units with a minimum size of 950 square feet.

The project forms part of broader housing initiatives introduced earlier this year. In January, the ministry opened applications for 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats in the Greater Malé area under the ‘Aailee Boahiyaavahikan’ programme.

The scheme includes 7,900 flats and 15,000 plots measuring 1,250 square feet across the Greater Malé region and Rasmale’. The land allocation is divided into two categories, with registered residents of Malé and priority applicants eligible for land in both Greater Malé and Rasmale’, while residents from other islands currently living in Malé are allocated land in Rasmale’.

The development of 3,000 flats under the programme has been contracted to BML Affordable Home Leasing, a subsidiary of the Bank of Maldives.

President Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to ensure housing for all Maldivian citizens above the age of 18 by the end of his tenure.
