The ACC, following a thorough review of complaints, reiterated its call for a suspension of flat allocations shortly after the Housing Ministry republished the final list of ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme recipients on last night.
In a letter addressed to the Housing Ministry, the ACC instructed a pause in the signing of agreements and all associated activities related to flat handovers until further notice from the commission.
The Housing Ministry, previously accused of proceeding with flat-related tasks despite the directives, released a statement on Thursday confirming the suspension of activities in line with the ACC’s instructions.
The ACC’s letter highlighted instances where ineligible applicants were deemed eligible and awarded points, along with cases of points being awarded in violation of the evaluation policy. The commission also noted failures in verifying information submitted by applicants.
The initial list of ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme flat recipients was initially disclosed on November 4. According to the Housing Ministry, recipients of the 4,000 units currently under construction by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) had all scored above 76 marks for three-bedroom flats, while recipients of the 4,000 units for two-bedroom flats had all scored above 73 marks.
Responding to the situation, the ACC called for a halt to flat allocations pending an investigation.
President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed his apprehension, advising the outgoing administration against hastening the handover of flats in the remaining days until the new administration assumes power.
