Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure has revealed that it is unlikely to complete the evaluation of new applications for land and flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa and Binveriyaa schemes and release the permanent list of recipients by the end of the current term.

The Planning Ministry reported that a total of 40,594 applications were received for the second round of these housing schemes, with 19,347 applications for land and 21,247 applications for flats, before the application deadline on Tuesday.

State Minister for Planning, Akram Kamaludeen, explained that evaluating all the forms within the given timeframe is a substantial challenge. He emphasised that the primary task is to thoroughly verify the information provided on each individual application form.

Akram also assured that the Planning Ministry will not rush the process to publish any list or issue land registries. Furthermore, he pointed out that the area designated for the second phase of the scheme, Uthuruhilafalhu, has not been dredged yet.

He mentioned past instances where land receipt documents were issued for plots that had not been reclaimed, and he affirmed that the current administration would not follow such practices.

While acknowledging that the existing scheme highlights the significant need for housing, Akram expressed hope that the incoming administration, led by Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, would continue the project even if it is not completed during this term.

Transition Spokesperson, Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel, during a press conference yesterday, announced that President-elect Muizzu is committed to not stopping any projects initiated by the outgoing government.

However, the Firuzul did not specify how the incoming administration intends to handle this specific project.
