The Health Protection Agency (HPA) organised a “Fathaa Hiy” event on World Heart Day 2023 to promote public awareness of heart health.

The event aimed to encourage people to maintain their physical well-being through beach sports and exercises.

Collaboratively initiated by the HPA and the Maldives Swimming Association, with support from various other institutions, the “Fathaa Hiy” event attracted students from the Swimming Association and members of the general public.

The primary objective of the event was to highlight the accessibility of simple exercise options without the need for gym. With every island offering beach areas, participants were encouraged to take advantage of these natural resources for activities such as swimming and exercise, which contribute to overall health.

World Heart Day, observed annually on September 29, focuses on heart health awareness. This year’s theme, “No Heart, Use Heart,” was chosen by the World Heart Federation.

It encourages individuals to contemplate their heart health, their connection to the environment, and the changes they can make to promote heart well-being.
