  • Proper Respiratory Etiquette: Individuals are advised to cover their mouth and nose with a cloth or tissue when coughing or sneezing, with used tissues to be safely disposed of in a trash can.
  • Emphasis on Hygiene: Maintaining general hygiene practices, especially regular handwashing with soap, is highlighted as a crucial preventive measure.
  • Mask Usage: Wearing a mask is advised for individuals experiencing cough symptoms, serving as an added layer of protection for those in close proximity.
  • Fever and Cough Management: Those exhibiting symptoms of fever and cough are encouraged to avoid crowded places, particularly in the presence of children. Caution is advised against approaching or hugging children displaying such symptoms.
  • Limiting Accompanying Individuals: Only a minimal number of people should accompany a sick patient, with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women avoiding hospital visits unless absolutely necessary.
  • Prompt Medical Attention: Persistent fever warrants immediate medical advice, and affected individuals are advised to isolate themselves from others as much as possible.
  • Vaccination for High-Risk Groups: The elderly and individuals undergoing treatment for various conditions are urged to get vaccinated. This precautionary measure helps protect against infection and its progression.
  • Influenza Vaccine Recommendation: Specific populations, including the elderly, children under 5, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, are encouraged to receive the influenza vaccine to guard against seasonal influenza.

For individuals with a cough and asthma, the HPA suggests home remedies such as adequate fluid intake, rest, and the use of lemon juice, ginger tea, and honey. Any medication, apart from paracetamol, should only be taken under the guidance of a medical professional.

Additionally, the guidelines stress the importance of averting mosquito bites, eliminating potential mosquito breeding grounds, and maintaining food hygiene during the holiday season. The HPA urges the public to remain vigilant and adhere to these guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy festive period.
