The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) organised a children’s evening in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, yesterday, as part of activities marking Human Rights Day.
The event drew a large turnout and featured stalls, entertainment activities, performances and appearances by well-known cartoon character mascots.

HRCM used the programme to share key information with children about human rights, including the fundamental principles, how rights can be denied or abused, and the importance of safeguarding them.
As part of this year’s Human Rights Day initiatives, the commission also visited the Special Needs Centre in Guraidhoo, where it conducted a gift-giving and entertainment programme for the residents.
Human Rights Day is observed annually on 10 December. This year marks the 77th anniversary of the occasion, first established through a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 1948.
