Hulhumalé Phase 1 recorded the highest number of traffic accidents within a one-week period during Ramadan in both 2025 and 2026, according to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service.
Police said 37 accidents were reported in Hulhumalé Phase 1 during the period in 2025, while 35 cases were recorded in the same period in 2026.
Data shared by police shows varying trends across other major roads and areas in the Greater Malé region.
During the second week of Ramadan, traffic accident data from the Malé area shows a similar pattern in both 1446 (08–14 March 2025) and 1447 (25 February–03 March 2026).

Accidents on Ameenee Magu more than doubled, rising from four reported cases in 2025 to nine in 2026. Incidents classified under “other locations” also increased sharply from 13 to 27.
Meanwhile, several key roads saw a decline in reported accidents. Cases on Boduthakurufaanu Magu fell from 18 in 2025 to 12 in 2026. Accidents on Majeedhee Magu also dropped slightly, from 10 to eight.
In Hulhumalé, accidents in Hulhumalé Phase 2 decreased from 12 in 2025 to 10 this year.
The Sinamalé Bridge and adjoining highway recorded 19 accidents in 2026 compared with 10 during the same period in 2025.
The lowest number of accidents in 2026 was recorded in the Local Market area near Boduthakurufaanu Magu, where police reported just two cases, down from four the previous year. The decline comes after the government redeveloped the stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu near the Local Market prior to Ramadan, expanding the previously congested two-lane road into a four-lane asphalt route.
