Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that reclamation works on Hulhumalé Phase III have reached close to the halfway point.
The land reclamation project, initiated in September 2023 under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s Binveriya housing project, involves the reclamation of 63 hectares of land. Sri Lanka-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMCC) was contracted for the works.
Before the project stalled, 23 hectares had been reclaimed. Reclamation activities resumed on 10 November, with MACL reporting steady progress since work restarted.
MACL stated that two 22,000 cubic metre dredgers, Prins der Nederlanden and Oranje, are currently operating at the site. As of the latest update, a total of 31 hectares has been reclaimed, bringing overall progress to approximately 49.2 per cent of the planned area.
CMCC has indicated that dredging works at both Hulhumalé Phase III and Giraavaru Falhu are expected to be completed within the next three months. Following the completion of reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III, the dredgers are scheduled to be deployed to Giraavaru Falhu.
