Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Dawood

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohamed Dawood has been removed from his post as Head of Hulhumale’ Police following serious corruption allegations.

The decision comes after a parliamentary sub-committee reviewing audit reports of the police housing project “Blue Housing” highlighted unexplained funds deposited into Dawood’s personal account between 2023 and 2024, totalling MVR 14.6 million.

Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim, who chairs the sub-committee, noted that Dawood has no known business interests but allegedly used these funds to invest in properties registered under family members, including a 10-storey building in Machangolhi and an apartment in FW Residence, Hulhumale’. Dawood’s name also appears in the Asset Recovery Commission’s report on the MMPRC corruption scandal.

Dawood has denied all allegations and accused the Professional Standards Command of attempting to frame him, describing the claims as part of a smear campaign.

Police confirmed that Dawood was removed from his post on Saturday, 1 November, and will now report to the Office of the Commissioner while investigations continue. Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed, known as Two-Four, has been appointed as the new Head of Hulhumale’ Police.

Authorities stated that the National Integrity Commission is investigating the allegations against Dawood, while the MMPRC case is being probed separately. Nazim also raised concerns over institutional accountability, claiming that an internal police investigation into Dawood’s finances had been halted prematurely.

Dawood was on vacation when the allegations emerged. Two-Four had previously served temporarily as Hulhumale’ Police chief during that period.

Dawood was promoted to Assistant Commissioner on 17 September 2024. His previous roles include Head of Road Police, Detective Investigation Officer, and Deputy Head of the Drug Enforcement Department.
