The Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, has expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the 4,000 social housing flats being developed in Hulhumalé Phase II.
The project, implemented by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), is currently the largest social housing initiative in the Malé region. It comprises a total of 32 residential towers, with a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The structural and finishing work of all towers has now been completed.
Of the 32 towers, 16 are being constructed by Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL), under the name Amaan Udhares. The remaining 16 towers, known as Amaan Dhoadhi, are being built by the National Buildings Construction Corporation of India (NBCC).
The Minister noted that when the current administration assumed office, progress on the project had reached only 33 percent. Since then, efforts have been made to prioritise and accelerate the construction timeline. Over the past 18 months, the completion level has increased significantly, with 96 percent of work finalised on the Amaan Dhoadhi towers and 95 percent on Amaan Udhares.
According to the Minister, close coordination between FDC and the contractors has contributed to both the improved speed and quality of construction. However, he also highlighted that the original design of the housing scheme did not include the provision of utility service connections. As a result, a separate project is now underway to facilitate these connections through a collaboration between the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
