Ilyas Labeeb, the presidential candidate of The Democrats, has announced his commitment to abolishing the Goods and Service Tax (GST) for businesses generating an annual income of less than USD 520.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Vaikaradhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Ilyas outlined his vision for regional development and addressed the pressing concerns facing local businesses.

Among the issues he highlighted were the substantial financial burdens that small enterprises bear, particularly in terms of rental and utility costs. Businesses such as cafés and guesthouses, he pointed out, often grapple with bills ranging from USD 520 to USD 1,600.

With an evident focus on fostering a conducive environment for small-scale enterprises, Ilyas Labeeb pledged that, if elected, his administration would institute a policy to waive taxes for businesses earning less than USD 520.

This, he asserted, would not only offer immediate financial relief to struggling businesses but also amplify opportunities for their growth and stability. The candidate also underscored the comprehensive nature of his proposed policies, designed to bolster the overall wellbeing of small businesses.
