International Medical Diagnostic Center (IMDC) has expressed profound sorrow following the death of a woman in childbirth under its care on Monday.

The patient had been admitted in preparation for a scheduled delivery and was reported to be healthy, in good spirits, and interacting positively with her attending doctor and medical team prior to the incident, IMDC said in a press statement.

According to IMDC, in the early hours of the Monday morning, at approximately 4:39 am, she experienced a sudden and unforeseen medical emergency. Their medical team responded immediately, with the attending doctor at her side within minutes, they said. An emergency procedure was initiated, and the baby was safely delivered. Despite the rapid and tireless efforts of doctors, nurses, and clinical staff, the mother could not be saved.

IMDC noted that this is the first incident of this nature since the introduction of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services at the facility in 2011. The centre, located in Addu City, emphasised that its team acted swiftly and professionally, providing care at the highest level throughout the emergency.

“We extend our deepest condolences, prayers, and heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the statement read. “We are truly sorry for their loss and the pain they are enduring.”

IMDC confirmed it is fully cooperating with the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities as the case is reviewed and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the family. The centre also stressed its ongoing dedication to providing safe, quality, and compassionate care to the community.
