Since last year, the Maldives government has been working to regularise immigrant workers by collecting their biometric data through the first phase of Operation Kurangi. On February 19, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology stated that it would begin deporting foreign workers who fail to provide their biometric data by April 20, 2025.
