The crackdown on irregular migration, which was launched last year, has led to the deportation of over 5,000 expatriates from the Maldives.
In addition to these measures, the Maldives is carrying out ‘Operation Kurangi,’ a programme aimed at collecting biometric data from all expatriates in the country. To date, biometric data for over 18,000 expatriates have been recorded, with the Home Ministry aiming to complete the initiative by April next year.
