Maldives Immigration has conducted raids on four more massage parlours in Male’, detaining five expatriates in the process.

The operation, carried out last night, formed part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal businesses run by expatriates. The five individuals detained were women found to be working outside the conditions of the visas issued to them.

This week, Immigration has searched and closed a total of eight massage parlours, arresting seven expatriates from these establishments. Authorities have not confirmed whether any of the parlours raided last night were also shut down.

Massage parlours in the capital have long been suspected of operating as fronts for prostitution, with some expatriates reportedly promoting such services on social media
