Immigration Receives Over 1,000 Reports via Online Portal
Maldives Immigration has reported that its online complaint submission platform, Immigration Watch, has received a total of 1,017 reports in the four months since its launch.
The portal, introduced on 17 July 2024, allows the public to report a range of immigration-related issues.

The 1,017 reports cover 17 distinct concerns, with the most commonly reported issue being illegal businesses operated by expatriates, which accounted for 239 cases. Other significant concerns include work visa violations (239 cases), prostitution (65 cases), and missing persons (41 cases).
A breakdown of the reports received through Immigration Watch includes:
- Illegal businesses run by expatriates: 239 cases

- Tourist visa violations: 14 cases
- Employment/sponsor breaches: 12 cases
- Criminal/character concerns: 11 cases
- Visa violations: 12 cases
- Drug abuse/trafficking: 10 cases
- Public health risks: 8 cases
- Human trafficking: 7 cases
- Illegal foreign exchange transactions: 7 cases
- Money laundering: 3 cases
- Border intelligence: 3 cases
- Document fraud: 1 case
- Labour exploitation: 1 case
- Other: 37 cases
The portal also facilitates anonymous reporting, ensuring confidentiality for those who wish to submit concerns without revealing their identity.
