Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has raised allegations concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of the Maldives’ first Islamic Minister and prominent religious scholar, Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari.

Dr Majeed passed away in 2018, at the age of 55, while receiving treatment at Lanka Hospitals in Colombo. He had travelled to Sri Lanka to attend a conference when he suffered a stroke. Due to the severity of his condition, he underwent three surgeries and was subsequently placed on ventilator support.

Seven years after Dr Majeed’s passing, Sheikh Imran made a post on the social media platform X, stating that suspicions he had long held about the incident have now been confirmed.

He alleged that a group of individuals had been involved in Dr Majeed’s death. No further details have been provided in support of these claims.
