India and Maldives Discuss Defense Ties in Recent Diplomatic Talks

India and Maldives engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering their defense ties. During a meeting between Defense Minister Mohammed Gassan Maumoon and Indian Ambassador to Maldives Munu Mahawar, discussions primarily focused on enhancing bilateral relations and further strengthening defense and security cooperation between the two nations.

According to statements from the Defense Ministry, the meeting included a courtesy call by the Indian Ambassador to the Defense Minister. During this interaction, the parties delved into the existing defense cooperation framework between India and Maldives. Notably, the discussions centered on various aspects of defense and security collaboration.

In line with this, the government of Maldives confirmed its pledge to withdraw Indian troops from the country. The presence of the Indian army in Maldives is governed by a defense agreement, specifically for the operation of helicopters and Dornier aircraft.
