The governments of India and the Maldives have held discussions to further expand trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The talks took place during a meeting between Mohamed Saeed, the Maldivian Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and Sunil Barthwal, the Indian Commerce Secretary.
Recent initiatives to deepen economic cooperation include business forums held in three Indian cities to promote investment opportunities in the Maldives.
India continues to be a key partner in the Maldives’ development, supporting both infrastructure projects and human resource development. Notable India-backed projects currently underway in the Maldives include the construction of the Thilamale’ Bridge and the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
