Shaheeb Ibrahim of Lighthouse, GA. Villingili, who was wanted in connection with the 2020 seizure of 130 kilogrammes of drugs from a fishing boat, has surrendered to the police.
Police had issued a wanted notice for Shaheeb on 13 September in relation to a case in the Criminal Court. A second search notice was released on Thursday after he failed to appear. He was being sought under a court order requiring his production in the Criminal Court on 23 September at 18:00, following repeated failures to respond to summons.
Police confirmed that Shaheeb appeared at a police station voluntarily early on Thursday evening.
The 2020 operation saw officers seize 130 kilogrammes of drugs from a fishing boat in Hulhumalé Bay on 12 October. Seven individuals were arrested at the time, including a 16-year-old.
Shaheeb, along with Ahmed Moosa of Violetvilla, HA. Hoarafushi, was identified as one of the alleged ringleaders. Despite custody orders being upheld by the courts, both were released by the Criminal Court on 6 April 2022, citing inadequate medical care while in detention. Their release was conditional for two months.
