The incident occurred last week Wednesday when a fire broke out at the old power station due to a technical fault in the switchboard. STELCO said the employee initially received treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Shortly before the fire, at 1:52pm, STELCO reported that feeders supplying electricity to Malé and Hulhumalé had been switched off following an issue with a medium-voltage panel. Power was restored three minutes later at 1:55pm.
The company has not released further details about the employee’s condition, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
