A total of 165 international monitors and observers are set to be deployed during the presidential election, comprising 143 observers and 22 monitors. Notably, 31 of these observers have received special invitations from the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM). They will be actively involved in monitoring proceedings across six different regions of the country, as confirmed by ECM Vice Chairman Ismail Habeeb.
Former Sri Lankan Election Commission President, Mahinda Deshapriya, has been appointed as the chief observer overseeing the work of the international monitors and observers. His arrival in the Maldives earlier today marks the beginning of this significant international presence. Foreign observers and monitors are expected to arrive in the Maldives both today and tomorrow.
The majority of these observers hail from the European Union and the Commonwealth, with additional participation from countries such as the United States, Britain, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Cameroon, Georgia, Honduras, El Salvador, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
Furthermore, 22 international monitors, representing France, Japan, India, and Sri Lanka, will be actively engaged in overseeing the electoral process.
