The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has donated laptops to support Operation Kurangi, a government initiative aimed at addressing the issue of illegal immigrants.
The donation was made under the Border Control Capacity Building Project, which seeks to enhance border management and reduce the spread of infectious diseases in south asia. The meeting between IOM and the Labour Relations Authority was attended by IOM Chief of Mission Kristin B. Parco and Senior Programme Manager Shantha Kulasekara.
Operation Kurangi, launched by the government on 2 May last year, focuses on collecting biometric information of foreign workers in the Maldives. The deadline for providing this information is set for 20 April, after which individuals who fail to comply will face deportation. Additionally, their access to services under the Expat System will be suspended.
