Islamic Minister Unveils Initiatives Alongside Maldives Zakat House Inauguration

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has disclosed a series of initiatives accompanying the inauguration of the Maldives Zakat House in January 2024.
The announcement was made through a social media post that delineated the outlined plans for the upcoming year.
As per the information shared on X, the Islamic Ministry has scheduled various events, commencing with the inauguration of the Maldives Zakat House on January 2. Subsequent to this, the Islamic Da’wah plan and the Atoll Waqf Project are set to be unveiled in the same month.
Among the outlined activities, a crucial agreement pertaining to Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage services is slated to be signed in Saudi Arabia on January 5. Plans are in place to disseminate comprehensive Hajj media coverage within the Maldives.
Minister Shaheem is also expected to conduct a press conference on January 24, coinciding with the launch of an Islamic TV channel in the same month, according to the provided schedule.
The primary objective of the Maldives Zakat House is to strengthen the Maldivian Zakat system and undertake all necessary measures to expand the Zakat Fund by investing in areas approved by Shariah for Zakat distribution, thereby maximizing benefits to recipients.
Officially known as Dhivehiraajjeyge Zakat House in Dhivehi, the President’s Office has assigned the number 496 for all official correspondence with the Maldives Zakat House, following the numbering system for state agencies.
The Maldives Zakat House aims to establish a robust mechanism for accepting and disbursing Zakat, declare the Nisab for Zakat Al-Mal (Zakat on Wealth) biannually, and regularly update the national registry of individuals below the poverty line.
