Islamic Ministry Announces Special Prayers For Lunar Eclipse Across Islands

MV+ News Desk | September 7, 2025

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has instructed all islands to conduct special eclipse prayers in line with the total lunar eclipse occurring tonight.

According to astronomical data, the eclipse will begin at 8:28pm, reach its peak at 11:11pm, and conclude at 1:55am. The ministry has directed that the prayers be held tonight at 11:12pm in the largest mosque of each island.

Island councils have been asked to organise the arrangements for the prayers, which are scheduled for 7 September 2025 at 11:15pm.

The total lunar eclipse will be visible across large parts of Asia, Europe and Africa. Observers in many regions are expected to witness a blood moon, a striking celestial phenomenon that scientists note will not occur again for thousands of years.
