The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed agreements to construct mosques and branches of the Centre for Quran across 11 islands.
During a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre, the ministry finalised agreements for the construction of 14 religious facilities. These include 11 mosques, two branches of the Centre for Quran, and an Islamic Centre.
Under the agreements, mosques with a capacity of 500 people will be built in HA. Baarah, HDh. Nellaidhoo, Sh. Noomaraa, N. Henbadhoo, R. Inguraidhoo, B. Maalhos, B. Kudarikilu, AA. Feridhoo, Th. Veymandoo, Th. Hirilandhoo, and S. Feydhoo. These mosques, funded by the government, will feature space for Quran classes. They will also be equipped with solar panels, air conditioning, and vinyl flooring.
Branches of the Centre for Quran will be established in L. Maabaidhoo and Lh. Olhuvelifushi. The Islamic Centre is to be built in Sh. Foakaidhoo. Each branch of the Centre for Quran will include three classrooms, a library, and a hall.
Of the 14 projects, 11 have been assigned to Fenaka Corporation, with the company’s Managing Director, Ahmed Saeed, signing the agreements.
Following the signing ceremony, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, stated that some ongoing projects have been temporarily halted. However, efforts are underway to resume work at the earliest opportunity and complete them alongside the newly approved projects.
An additional agreement for a project in HA. Utheemu was also scheduled to be signed during the event. However, this has been postponed due to the need for administrative adjustments.
