Jabir’s Case Referred to Ethics Committee for Damaging Parliamentary Microphone

The Parliament has taken action against Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, referring his case to the Committee on Member’s Privileges and Ethics for damaging a microphone during the session.

Speaker of the House, Mohamed Aslam, disclosed that the microphone on Jabir’s desk was damaged, prompting the need for its replacement at a cost of MVR 5,100, as reported by the technical staff of the parliamentary office.

The Committee on Member’s Privileges and Ethics, in accordance with the Rules of Parliament, is tasked with investigating allegations of Code of Conduct violations by members. This includes violations of laws and rules, and the committee is empowered to recommend appropriate corrective actions to the Speaker.

Speaker Aslam emphasised the importance of safeguarding parliamentary property and urged individuals to refrain from causing any damage.

During yesterday’s session, MP Jabir’s was named in connection to the incident, but he did not vacate the floor.
