An information session on the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) programme, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship offered by the Government of Japan, is scheduled to take place today in Malé.
The session will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the 9th floor conference room of the Marukab Plaza in the capital. It is open to civil servants and employees from independent institutions, courts, and legislative bodies who are interested in pursuing higher education in Japan.
The JDS programme is specifically designed for Maldivian government officials and aims to support human resource development through postgraduate study opportunities at Japanese universities. During today’s session, participants will receive detailed information about the programme, including the application process, eligibility criteria, and areas of study.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet JDS alumni and learn about their experiences studying in Japan and applying their knowledge in public service upon their return.
Applications are currently open for six scholarships under the JDS programme for the 2026–2027 academic year. The deadline for submission is 10 November 2025.
Since its launch in the Maldives in 2020, a total of 27 Maldivians have received scholarships through the JDS programme.
