Japanese Tourist Found Dead After Going Missing in Kaafu Atoll

A Japanese tourist who went missing while diving in Kandoomaa Thila, near Kaafu Atoll Maafushi, has been found dead.

The 26-year-old man was reported missing at 10:00 am on Thursday after he failed to resurface during a diving excursion organised by a guesthouse in Maafushi.
A search operation was launched by divers from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Malé Area Command and the Coast Guard Second Squadron. The body was recovered from the lagoon at around 5:17 pm the same day.
The tourist was transported to Maafushi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
